1/In North Vietnam, March is spring time. There could be a few spells of mild cold winds at the beginning of the month. During this time the North is influenced by different winds most of the time, and there could be extremely light winds (rain dusts). The rains should be so light that you do no need a raincoat at all traveling outdoors.
In the first week of 2019, the North experienced quite damp days that made it uncomfortable air indoors. There were some day with rain dusts. People should turn on air-conditioners to make it dry inside their houses. This type of weather ended only when a new spell of cold wind came in late 6March2019 which brought along an unusual torrential rain.
- Northeast of Vietnam enjoyed mixed weather: rain, cloudy and sunny 16-28oC before the cold wind; during and after the cold wind, cloudy and cold, 12-21oC.
- Northwest of Vietnam was mostly sunny, except for a rain in Son La, 18-32oC before the cold wind; after the cold wind, cloudy and sunny, 16-29oC. Sapa had some day with rains, 9-14oC.
- Lowlands were damp, cloudy&sunny, 21-28oC before the cold wind; after the cold wind, it was mostly cold, dry and cloudy, 17-21oC.
The second week of March 2019 came with a new spell of cold wind which was later strengthened in the middle of the week. There was a torrential rain when the cold wind moved in, then the North had some cloudy days with cool temperatures, a couple of days with light rains, and some sunny days with pleasant temperatures.
- The Northeast of Vietnam was mostly cold and dry, 1-2 days with light rains, 12-25oC.
- The Northwest of Vietnam was not affected much by the cold wind, it was mostly sunny, some areas were cloudy and some got light rains, 16-32oC. Sapa was mostly sunny and cold, 8-19oC.
- The lowlands were mostly cloudy, rainy a couple of days, 17-27oC.

The third week of March 2019 was marked by 2 successive spells of cold wind: one at the beginning and the other at the end of the third week of March 2019. There was patchy rain in the Northeast and lowlands at the beginning and the end of the week while most of the week was dry and cold.
- The Northeast of Vietnam was mostly cold and dry, a couple of days with patchy rains, 13-31oC.
- Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, Lao Cai were with some rain in Hoa Binh and Yen Bai, but mostly cloudy and sunny, 17-35oC; Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau were with bright sunshine, 18-34oC. Sapa is dry and cold, 8-13oC. Sapa was rainy for a day, mostly dry and cold for the rest of the week, 8-21oC.
- The lowlands were mostly rainy, foggy and cloudy, 18-31oC. For the last 3-4 days of the week, it was very moist indoors which made it very uncomfortable.
The fourth week of March 2019 came with a renewed spell of northeasterly wind which brought the temperatures in the North of Vietnam to winter levels. The cold and dry air made it dry indoors again.
- The Northeast had mixed weather: cloudy, rainy and sunny; the temperatures were 14-30oC before and after the cold wind came in, 11-19oC when the wind came in.
- The Northwest was mostly sunny in Son La, Dien Bien and Lai Chau, 19-34oC. Hoa Binh, Yen Bai and Lao Cai were mostly sunny, some days with rains and fog in Hoa Binh, 17-26oC when the cold wind came in, 21-33oC before and after the cold wind. Sapa was sunny and cloudy, 9-21oC.
- The lowlands were mixed cloudy, sunny and with short-lived torrential rains on some days, 16-23oC and 21-30oC.
2/ The North of the Central Region (Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh) has similar weather conditions to the North. In the first week of March 2019, the North of the Central Region was sunny, 21-33oC before the cold wind; after the cold wind, it was partially rainy & sunny, 17-21oC.
The second week of March 2019 brought cloudy, rainy and sunny weather to the region. The temperatures were 18-27oC.
The third week of March 2019 was characterized with mixed sunny, rainy and cloudy weather, 18-27oC.
The fourth week of March 2019 was with some rains, but mostly cloudy and sunny, 17-26oC and 22-32oC during and before/after the cold wind.
3/The coastal areas in the Central Region of Vietnam (Central Coast of Vietnam including: Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Phu Yen, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan). March is in the dry season and the temperatures are mostly pleasant. This is among the best times to have nice weather on holidays here.
In the first week of March 2019, the Central Coast of Vietnam was sunny, 19-33oC. Quang Binh was warm 25-35oC. The spell of cold wind to the north did not have visible effects in the region.
In the second week of March, the Central Coast was mostly sunny and with pleasant temperatures, 22-32oC. There were short-lived light rains in Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Hue and Quang Ngai. Quang Binh had some days with warm temperatures (above 35oC).
Third week of March was with sunny days mostly; there were patchy rains in Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Quang Ngai a day each; Quang Binh had a warm day of 36oC; the temperature range for most of the region was 22-34oC.
The fourth week of March was with some days with torrential rains in Quang Binh and Quang Tri, brief rains in Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh and Phu Yen, but mostly sunny in the whole region. Quang Binh had some hot days (39oC).
- Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Hue: 22-33oC and 24-39oC;
- Da Nang, Hoi An: Sunny, 23-30oC;
- Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen: rainy, 20-32oC.
- Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan: sunny, 25-33oC.
4/ The Central Highlands of Vietnam is in the dry season in March. Sunny days were the norm in March 2019. In fact, the Central Highlands have been suffering serious lack of water in the dury season in 2019. The temperatures were a17-34oC in the first week of the month mostly, 12-27oC in Da Lat. There were a couple of days in Da Lat that it rained.
The second week was basically the same as the first week with sunny weather and pleasant temperatures, 18-35oC. The Central Highlands have been in serious lack of water.
Third week was sunny again, 16-36oC. It was sunny, 13-27oC in Da Lat. The Central Highlands have been in a serious drought.
The fourth week brought some unusual rains in some areas in the Central Highlands, 18-35oC; Da Lat got some rains, but mostly sunny, 14-27oC.
5/The South of Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Ninh, Vung Tau, Dong Nai, and the Mekong Delta) is in the dry season in March. The weather is mostly stable throughout the month but the temperatures are building up that some days it may be quite warm and humid (above 35oC).
In the first week of March 2019, the South enjoyed bright sunshine, 21-34oC.
Second week was sunny and hot, 25-38oC. Saigon and the Mekong Delta experienced some days with high temperatures (35-38oC). This year, the heat has come to the South of Vietnam earlier than usual. Along with the Central Highlands, the South of Vietnam is on high danger of forest fire.
Third week was sunny with some very hot days, Cai Mau and Kien Giang with rain on a day, 24-37oC. The provinces to the Northwest of Ho Chi Minh City (Dong Nai, Binh Phuoc, Binh Duong, Tay Ninh) had dry and hot days, 24-36oC.
The fourth week was sunny and very hot, some unusual short-lived torrential rains, 24-37oC to the east (Vung Tau, Saigon and the Mekong Delta) and mostly 25-37oC to the west (Dong Nai, Binh Phuoc, Binh Duong, Tay Ninh).
