In North Vietnam, September is autumn in North Vietnam during which there are possible typhoons and tropical depressions. There are chances that it rains a few days during the time of a tropical storms or tropical depressions.
At the beginning of September 2018 there was a flash flood at Phong Tho (Lai Chau in the Northwest of Vietnam). In mid of September, there were Typhoon Barijat (No.5) and Super Typhoon Khangkhut (No. 6) which halted cruises on Halong Bay one day each. Both of them didn’t have much visible impact on Vietnam; the Super Typhoon deviated from projected path and hit Chinese mainland.
At the beginning of the second week of September and at the end of September there were spells of the Winter Monsoon (Northeasterly Monsoon) which started blowing in northern Vietnam. This is 2 months earlier than usual. The temperatures have turned lower and pleasant. Except for a few days with rains, the North of Vietnam enjoyed mostly sunny, breezy and pleasant weather in September 2018. The temperatures in the Northwest of Vietnam were 20-30oC, in the Northeast of Vietnam were 16-28oC, in the lowland 20-30oC.
The North of the Central Region (Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh) has similar weather pattern to the North of Vietnam. The floods continued from August to wreak havoc in Muong Lat, Quan Son and Thuong Xuan of Thanh Hoa Province in the first week of September. The weather turned just fine after the disaster. The temperatures were 22-31oC
The coastal areas in the Central Region of Vietnam (Central Coast of Vietnam including: Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Phu Yen, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan) enjoyed mostly sunny and pleasant weather with sporadic rains. The temperatures were mostly 24-31oC. This is different from usual as the Central Region should have been in the middle of the rainy season and should have been rainy everyday!
The Central Highlands of Vietnam was deep in the rainy season with torrential rains as usual. The temperatures were from 18oC to 29oC.
The South of Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Ninh, Vung Tau, Dong Nai, and the Mekong Delta) was in the middle of the rainy season with rains lasting for 30 minutes to an hour each day. The temperatures were between 24-30oC.
