Can Tho is the capital city of the Mekong Delta in southern Vietnam, 170km from Saigon and 40km from Vinh Long City. Can Tho is not off-the-tourist track, but the city doesn't really have many foreign travellers just yet. The city of Can Tho has luxurious hotels and resorts, some of which are riverside.

Visiting Can Tho, you can visit the orchards, the floating market of Cai Rang, the Old House of Binh Thuy...There is an alternative to stay with a local family while in Can Tho. Local food is excellent including fresh seafood and local-styled cuisine.
Places to visit in Can Tho Vietnam
1/ Cai Rang Floating Market
This is an exotic market available only in the Mekong Delta where people travel by waterways mostly. The market gathering is from 5:00 A.M through 10:00 A.M. The most colorful and exotic time is around May-July when there are several types of seasonal fruits.
As of our last check in March 2025, the Cai Rang Floating Market ceased to exist: There were several tourist boats jamming up the Mekong River surrounding 2-3 merchant boats.

2/ Ninh Kieu Night Market
The night market is by the riverside and is a good place to try local food for reasonable prices.
3/ Rice noodle workshop (Hu Tieu)
Learn about the process when rice paper and rice noodle are made by traditional methods. This type of rice noodle tastes distinctively of southern Vietnam style.
4/ Chua Ong
This is a Chinese styled temple for local Chinese community.

5/ Bang Lang Stork Sanctuary (in Thot Not District)
The stork sanctuary is 45km from Can Tho and the right moment to visit the site is in the late afternoon when hundreds of storks come back home to roost.
6/ Dao Ngot Cu Lao
This is an island near Can Tho City with lots of greenery and orchards for the visitors.
7/ Muoi Cuong Cacao Orchard

8/ The Old House of Binh Thuy
Visit an amazing architecture which was built by a wealthy family and which has been used as a studio for several movies be it Vietnamese ones or French ones.

The biggest functional place for medication in the Mekong Delta.
