Dong Hoi City is the provincial capital of Quang Binh Province. Dong Hoi is home to the deserted beaches of Nhat Le and Bao Ninh, lovely sand dunes. The city can be the base for exploring the Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park and some remains of the famed Ho Chi Minh Trail. Dong Hoi City is 500km south of Hanoi.

There are some tourist buses which depart Hanoi for Dong Hoi every evening near the Old Quarter of Hanoi. Alternatively there are several local buses departing Hanoi for Dong Hoi every day from various bus stations My Dinh, Giai Phong, Yen Nghia. The ticket costs are from 250,000VND-350,000VND.

There are daily overnight trains from Hanoi to Dong Hoi with soft seat cabins and sleeper cabins. The train journeys take 10 hours. Dong Hoi Train Station is 4km from the city center.
5/ By motorbike
Travel to Dong Hoi from Hanoi by motorbike is an adventure which takes 2 days. The road is very busy from Hanoi to Ninh Binh and traffic gets better after that.
6/ By bicycle
It is possible to travel to Dong Hoi from Hanoi by bicycle but it requires 4-5 days. It is recommended to break the journey with overnight stay at Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Vinh, Ha Tinh.
