1/In North Vietnam, March is spring time. There could be a few spells of mild cold winds at the beginning of the month. During this time the North is influenced by different winds most of the time, and there could be extremely light winds (rain dusts). The rains should be so light that you do no need a raincoat at all traveling outdoors.
06March2019 A new spell of cold wind is moving southward affecting the Northeast of Vietnam. It is expected to influence all the North of Vietnam from 7March2019. There may be rains in the regions as the wind brushes through.
21February2019 A new spell of cold wind start shaving its effect in the far-northern mountains in the evening. The effects of the cold wind are expected in the Northeast of Vietnam from 22February2019 and later to the north of the Central Region of Vietnam. The Northwest of Vietnam and the Central Coast will be affected by the cold wind afterwards.
11February2019 A weak spell of cold wind blowing through North Vietnam brings about cloudy weather and rains to some regions in the North. The cold wind puts an end to the sunny and dry weather in the north which had extended from before Tet holidays (Lunar New Year).
1/In North Vietnam, February is spring time. There could be a few spells of mild cold winds at the beginning of the month though. Also, the easterly winds and southeasterly winds have more effects in the north which may result in light drizzles (rain dust) and thick fogs on some days in the North. The foehn wind has more effects in Son La, Dien Bien and Lai Chau which makes the temperatures in these provinces distinctly higher than the rest of the North.
1/In North Vietnam, January is deep in the winter with successive spells of cold northeasterly monsoons which are mostly dominant here at this time of the year. There are sometimes easterly winds and westerly winds which may also affect the north of Vietnam during this time. When these winds meet they cause light rains for a couple of days. If the northeasterly monsoons are strong, then it is normally dry and cold. There may be some days of January that it is foggy in the North.
20January2019 A new spell of cold winds is moving southwards brushing through the mountains in the Northeast of Vietnam and Northwest of Vietnam. The effects will have been felt in all the North and North of the Central Region of Vietnam by this evening.
14January2019 A new spell of cold winds (northeasterly monsoon) starts blowing into northern Vietnam and continue its movements from the Northeast southwards and southwestwards. It is expected to get cold in the North and North of the Central Region of Vietnam from the early evening of 15January2019.
09January2019 A new spell of strengthening northeasterly monsoon starts having impact on the North of Vietnam causing rain throughout the region. Heavy rains are expected in the Northwest of Vietnam due to the meeting of the cold monsoon and the westerly winds on high altitudes.
02January2019 The tropical depression which had formed in the Philippines and entered the East Vietnam Sea has strengthened to be a tropical storm, the 1st Typhoon in Vietnam in 2019 (Pabuk) with sustained winds of 60-75kph.
1/The North of Vietnam
In North Vietnam, December is winter but it was slightly different in 2018. December 2018 the North of Vietnam experienced the first week with perfect and typical autumn days: sunny, breezy and absolutely pleasant. The temperatures were 14-26oC in the lowlands and 12-23oC in the mountains.
The new spell of northerly cold winds in northern Vietnam starting on the night of 27December2018 in the mountains and 28Dec2018 in the lowlands has been causing extreme cold to the north of Vietnam and torrential rains in the Central Region of Vietnam. Records show -0.5oC at Mau Son Mountain (Lang Son) on 30December2018, there has been snow and frost at Mau Son on 31December2018.
