General Weather Patterns in Vietnam in October
October is autumn in northern Vietnam, the rainy season in the Central Coast of Vietnam, high rainy season in the Central Highlands and Southern Vietnam.
As the Southeasterly Wind is more active, all of the North of Vietnam is to have more days with nice temperatures. There is often heavy rain in the North of Vietnam, especially in the far northern mountains.
It is possible that there are typhoons or tropical depressions which may have impact in Northern Vietnam, North of the Central Coast and the Central Coast. Under impact of a typhoon, there may be torrential rain in the far Northern mountains which may cause landslides, rock slides or flash floods. Under impact of a typhoon or tropical depression, cruises on Halong Bay are prohibited.
The Central Coast often has continual heavy rain in October which is attributed to the Intertropical Convergence Zone which has the axis across the region in October. Another reason for heavy and prolonged rain in the Central Coast is due to the Northeasterly Wind and high mountains to the west which blocks clouds. Streets in cities are often flooded temporarily nowadays and it is advised not to take part in traffic when the streets are flooded. Under impact of a typhoon, several places in the Central Coast may be flooded for a few days or a few weeks.
In the Central Highlands and Southern Vietnam, October is the high rainy season. It could be sunny during daytime and heavy rain at the end of a day, or it could be prolonged rain with gloomy skies in the Central Highlands and Southern Vietnam. Traveling in these two regions in October you are to expect a daily rain which is often quite heavy. Due to bad sewage systems that streets in cities are temporarily flooded which disrupts traffic.
And in the Central Highlands heavy rain may cause flash floods and landslides. Thanks to the frequent and long-lasting rain that the temperatures are extremely pleasant in the Central Highlands and mostly nice and pleasant in the South of Vietnam.
Possible Dangers From Extreme Weather: Landslides, Rock Slides, Flash Floods
Landslides, rock slides may take place anywhere which have continual rain for a few days and which have vertical or steep rock cliffs or high slopes.
