General Weather Patterns in Vietnam in June
June is summer in northern Vietnam, the hot season in the Central Coast of Vietnam. There may be heavy rain in the North of Vietnam, especially in the far mountains. The Northeast and lowland of Northern Vietnam may have some days with nice weather thanks to the humid Southeasterly Wind.
Part of the Northwest of Vietnam and most of the Central Coast of Vietnam are under impact of the foehn wind most of the time which makes the air hot and dry. The sun is very strong and it is advisable to drink plenty of water and wear sunglasses and sunhats when going outdoors.
It is possible that there are typhoons or tropical depressions which may have impact in Northern Vietnam and North of the Central Coast. The typhoons often cause torrential rain in the far Northern Mountain which may cause landslides or flash floods. Under impact of a typhoon or tropical depression, cruises on Halong Bay are banned.
In the Central Highlands and Southern Vietnam, June is the rainy season. Traveling in these two regions in June you are to expect a daily rain which lasts from 30 minutes to 1 hour. Due to bad sewage systems that streets are temporarily flooded which disrupts traffic. Thanks to the rain that the temperatures are extremely pleasant in the Central Highlands and mostly nice and pleasant in the South of Vietnam.
First 10 Days of June 2023
At the end of May and beginning of June there was a heat strike in the North and Central Coast of Vietnam with high temperatures surpassing 38oC in several places. Highest recorded temperatures were found at Mường La (Sơn La) 43.8oC, Bắc Mê (Hà Giang) 41.3oC, Bảo Lạc (Cao Bằng) 41.8oC, Hồi Xuân (Thanh Hóa) 40.5oC, Đô Lương (Nghệ An) 41.0oC, Hương Sơn (Hà Tĩnh) 40.6oC.
There was some rain in the far northern mountain as recorded in the first 5 hours of 2-June in Son La: Nậm Păm 95mm, Tà Hộc 79mm, Nà Bó 64mm, Phiêng Côn 56mm...
The Central Highlands and South of Vietnam had daily heavy rain with pleasant temperatures. Heavy rain made streets in several cities like Ho Chi Minh, Bien Hoa… flooded temporarily.

- East of Southern Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh): rain, sun, 27-34oC mostly, 27-35oC in Tay Ninh;
- West of Southern Vietnam ( The Mekong Delta): clouds, rain, 26-32oC mostly, 26-33oC in An Giang.
The second half of the first decade of June 2023, there was rain in several places in Northern Vietnam putting an end to the heat strike. In the Central Highlands and Southern Vietnam, torrential was found and streets in several cities were flooded temporarily. There was a devastating flood in Dong Nai.
Second 10 Days of June 2023
The second 10 days of June 2023 started off when there had been a heat strike in the North and Central Coast of Vietnam. There was torrential rain across the North which made the temperatures in this region nice for a day then it turned hot again. The North had been under a severe drought in which rivers in the North ran dry causing difficulties to agriculture, aquaculture, hydro-power.
The Central Highlands and Southern Region enjoyed daily rain and pleasant temperatures.
From 12-June there was more rain across the North of Vietnam easing the lack of water a bit. The temperatures turned slightly lower but still hot.
High temperatures recorded in Northern Vietnam on 12-June: Bắc Mê (Hà Giang) 39.0oC, Chiêm Hóa (Tuyên Quang) 37.9oC, Cao Bằng 38.6oC, Chợ Rã (Bắc Kạn) 38.3oC, Con Cuông (Nghệ An) 37.5oC.

In the last decade of June 2023, the North had some days with hot temperatures at mid day and heavy rain in late afternoon, tolerable or nice temperatures at night. The North of the Central Coast and the Mid of the Central Coast had a heat strike. The Central Highlands and South of Vietnam had rain and nice temperatures.

There was heavy rain in the North of Vietnam, North of the Central Coast and in the Central Highlands of Vietnam from mid of the last decade of June 2023. There was torrential rain accompanied by hail in Da Lat which caused a flash flood in the city temporarily. The temperatures turned pleasant for the remainder of the month in most of Vietnam, except for part of the Mid Central Coast to the North of the Hai Van Pass.
