On 14-July a tropical depression crossed the Luzon Island in the Philippines entering the East Vietnam Sea. 15-July the tropical depression strengthened and became the first Typhoon in Vietnam in 2023. The typhoon was internationally coded Talim. Boat trips to the Phu Quoc Island, Nam Du Island and Hon Son Island were suspended. 18-July the Typhoon made landfall on the southern coast of Guang Xi Province in China and quickly weakened to be a tropical depression by the evening.
Typhoon Talim did not directly hit northern Vietnam as previously anticipated but it caused strong winds in southern Vietnam. The reason was that the typhoon accumulated winds into its swirl by drawing in air which made the Southerly Wind in southern Vietnam drawn in and become much stronger. Strong gusts of winds in Southern Vietnam on 17-July and 18-July felled several trees in Ho Chi Minh City and in the Mekong Delta, and destroyed houses in the Mekong Delta.
