General Weather Patterns in Vietnam in January
January is winter in northern Vietnam, about the end of the rainy season in the Central Coast of Vietnam. January is the dry season in the Central Highlands and Southern Vietnam. The temperatures should be cold in Northern Vietnam and part of the Central Coast, pleasant in the Central Highlands and Southern Vietnam.
The prevalent wind in Vietnam mostly in January is often the cool Northeasterly Wind. This wind may approach Northern Vietnam from the coast or blows through inland only: the former case causes light rain in the North and the latter case causes dry and pleasant weather in this region.
The Northeasterly Wind mostly causes rainy weather in the Central Coast of Vietnam.
The Northeasterly Wind causes rough sea all over Vietnam from the North to the South including the Con Dao Islands and the Phu Quoc Island.
Possible Dangers From Extreme Weather: Landslides, Rock Slides, Flash Floods

First 10 Days of January 2024
There were 02 spells of the cold Northeasterly Wind in Vietnam in the first ten days of January 2024 and the North experienced brief rain and strong winds, but mostly the region enjoyed sunny weather with very pleasant temperatures.
The North of the Central Coast and the South of the Central Coast enjoyed mostly cloudy and sunny days with pleasant temperatures. The Mid of the Central Coast had more of rainy weather. Overall the Central Coast enjoyed more of the dry season in January 2024. This was earlier than usual.
The Central Highlands and Southern Vietnam enjoyed mostly sunny weather with pleasant temperatures. Southern Vietnam had some warm days though.

- East of Southern Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh): sun, 24-34oC.
- West of Southern Vietnam ( The Mekong Delta): sun, clouds, 23-33oC.
The Phu Quoc Island had sun, clouds, some rain, 25-31oC.
The Con Dao Islands had sun, clouds, 26-30oC.
Second 10 Days of January 2024
In the second 10 days of January 2024, Vietnam had a new spell of the Northeasterly Wind which caused rain and cold temperatures in the North. The Central Coast, Central Highlands and Southern Vietnam had dry weather and pleasant temperatures mostly.
The Central Region seems to have entered the dry season, earlier than usual. Northern Vietnam had the longest streak of rainy days since the beginning of this winter.

Last 10 Days of January 2024
In the last decade of January 2024, there were successive spells of the Northeasterly Wind which caused the lowest temperatures in the North to below freezing point. There was frost, ice and snow in the mountains. There was rain for a day in the North and some heavy rain in the Central Coast.
The Central Highlands and Southern Vietnam remained to have beautiful sunshine and pleasant temperatures.
