These are notes on Vietnam weather in December 2024 and what to know before planning travel holidays to Vietnam in 2024, be it your family vacation or your travelers’ Vietnam vacations if you are a tour company or travel agent.
General Weather Patterns in Vietnam in December
December is the winter in northern Vietnam with temperatures ranging from cold to very cold (below 10oC-15oC).
December is the rainy season with cold temperatures in the Central Coast of Vietnam.
December is the dry season in the Central Highlands and southern Vietnam. The temperatures in the Central Highlands are 20-28oC and those in southern Vietnam are 24-32oC.
The prevalent winds in Vietnam in December is often the Northeasterly Wind which has impact on almost all of Vietnam. Southern Vietnam and the Central Highlands may have some days with the Southwesterly Wind which causes some light and short-lived rain.
It is the Northeasterly Wind that causes a real winter in northern Vietnam from the end of December, the long-lasting rain in the Central Coast of Vietnam and dry season in the Central Highlands and in southern Vietnam.
There are rarely tropical depressions or typhoons in Vietnam in December, if any, then it is more likely to have impact on the Central Coast of Vietnam and the consequences are often floods in several places in the region.
The Northeasterly Wind causes rough sea all over the country from the top north to the bottom south of Vietnam. During the time under impact of a typhoon or tropical depression, extremely rough sea is expected in the Central Region of Vietnam and southern Vietnam, and boat traffic between the inland and the offshore islands are disrupted in these regions.
Possible Dangers From Extreme Weather: Landslides, Rock Slides, Flash Floods in the mountains of the North and the Central Region of Vietnam.
There are chances of weather dangers in Vietnam in December which are more likely to come from torrential rain which is often worse due to occasional typhoons or tropical depressions.
It is the norm that more dangers are in the Central Region of Vietnam in December. There may be some dangers between roads connecting the Central Highlands and the Central Coast.
