1/The North of Vietnam
In North Vietnam, December is winter but it was slightly different in 2018. December 2018 the North of Vietnam experienced the first week with perfect and typical autumn days: sunny, breezy and absolutely pleasant. The temperatures were 14-26oC in the lowlands and 12-23oC in the mountains.
The second week of December 2018 started with a new spell of cold winds making the temperatures lower, gloomy weather and rains in the Northeast. The temperatures were 13-23oC in the lowlands, 8-15oC in the Northeast, 14-23 in the Northwest.
The third week, it was deep in the winter in northern Vietnam with strengthening northerly cold winds and low temperatures. It was dry though. The temperatures were 14-28oC, 9-26oC in the Northeast and 16-28 in the Northwest.
The fourth week started with amazingly pleasant with breezy sunny days, only some areas got light rains. Coming towards the end of the month, a new spell of cold winds brought the North into a real cold winter as normal. The newly arrived winds brought along some rains in all over the North of Vietnam; the winds were strong and the rains were light and sporadic though. The temperatures were 8-16oC in the lowland, 2-14oC in the Northeast, 7-22 in the Northwest.
So, it was mostly pleasant days in the North in December 2018 with a 4-5 days with rains and cold temperatures only.
2/The North of the Central Region of Vietnam
The North of the Central Region (Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh) has similar weather conditions to the North. There were some rains for a couple of days each in the first week and second week with temperatures between 14-28oC. It was mostly sunny in the third week with temperatures between 18-28oC. And it turned rainy and gloomy in the last couple of days of the month with temperatures between 9-19oC.
3/The Central Coast of Vietnam
The coastal areas in the Central Region of Vietnam (Central Coast of Vietnam including: Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Phu Yen, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan). December is coming towards to end of the rainy season here. But in December 2018, the weather was different.
Unusually torrential rains came with the arrival of a new spell of northerly winds starting from the second week. Landslides and floods came as a result that halted road traffic and train service for a 3-5 days. Another round of disaster of torrential rains, landslides, floods came right at the end of the month and beginning of the new year. Quang Tri, Da Nang, Binh Dinh, Quang Ngai, Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa suffered the worst of the floods and landslides. The Khanh Le Pass from Da Lat to Nha Trang were twice blocked by landslides and traffic was halted.
The temperatures were 18-29oC in the first three weeks of the month and 16-26oC in the last 4-5 days of the month. The temperatures were 23-28oC in Ninh Thuan and Binh Thuan.
4/The Central Highlands of Vietnam
The Central Highlands of Vietnam is around the end of the rainy season. Sunny days were the norm in 2018; slight rains were found in the last couple of days of the month. The temperatures were 19-30oC in the first half of the month mostly, in Da Lat they were 15-23oC. In the second half of the month the temperatures were 18-26oC and in Da Lat they were 14-18oC.
5/The South of Vietnam
In Demcember 2018, the South of Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Ninh, Vung Tau, Dong Nai, and the Mekong Delta) had mostly nice weather with sunny days. For 3-4 days at the end of the month, it turned gloomy and rainy. The temperatures were 23-32oC.
