10 local tour operators and travel agents were licensed to operate adventure tours by The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lam Dong Province on 20July2017. This is the first time that adventure travel has been officially recognized by the authority.

From 14July2017 Superdong started operating speedboat trips between Soc Trang and Con Dao Island. The boat departs Soc Trang everyday at the Port of the Police Border of Tran De District (Soc Trang Province) at 0800 A.M and arrives at Ben Dam Port on Con Dao Island after 150 minutes. The return trip starts from Con Dao at 13:00.
By Thu Huong. 4June2013 The opening ceremony for tours around Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) by speedboat is hosted at Thu Thiem Pier. The city is crisscrossed by a system of rivers and canals, but there had been no tours of the city by waterways earlier. The current fleet includes 10 speedboats with capacity carrying 6-40 passengers.

Vietnam Ministry of Transport has completed the draft Decree for the Administration of Vehicles brought into Vietnam by foreign visitors on tourism purposes. According to the draft, foreign travelers to Vietnam could bring foreign vehicles into Vietnam on tourism purposes for a period not exceeding 30 days. In the case of extension, then the extended period shall not exceed 10 days. The Draft Decree allows cars of 9-Seater or smaller size with steering wheel to the left, and motorbikes only. The travelers are to travel in Vietnam in group with travel itinerary arranged by Vietnamese travel agents or Vietnam-based tour operators.

6Dec2012 at a Paris Conference, the UNESCO (United Nation Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) officially agreed on the inscription of the Worship of Hung Kings in Vietnam to the Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

26April2012 Phuc Thinh Company started the commuting speedboats between Halong Bay (Quang Ninh Province) and Cat Ba Island (Hai Phong Province). The piers at Ha Long City are Hon Gai and Tuan Chau Island; those on Cat Ba Island are Gia Luan and Ben Beo.

24November2011, Xoan Singing of Phu Tho Province of Vietnam was inscribed by the UNESCO to the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity which is in need of urgent Safeguarding. The inscription was made at the Sixth Session of the Intergovernmental Committee Convention for the Safeguarding of Intangible Heritage, which is to take place in Bali (Indonesia) from 22November2011 to 29November2011.

Halong Bay Vietnam was named among the Provisional Seven Wonders of Nature after the first count of vote results on 11/11/11.The bay stretches in an area of 1553 square kilometers in the north-east of Vietnam, 165km from Hanoi. Halong Bay includes 1,969 rocky islands and islets jutting out of the emerald water of the East Vietnam Sea.

From 8August2011, a new speedboat (Superdong) started operating daily trips between Ha Tien and Phu Quoc Island in southern Vietnam. Superdong has the maximal capacity of 170 passengers, can travel at 28 nautical miles per hour and could operate under windy conditions of Level 6. The speedboat departs Ha Tien Harbor at 13:15 and departs Phu Quoc Island at 08:00. The travel time between the two destinations is 1 hour 10 minutes.

At 27June2011 at a conference of the World Heritage Committee (belonging to the UNESCO) in Paris, Ho Citadel of Thanh Hoa Province of Vietnam was inscribed to the list of World Heritage by the UNESCO.

On 26-May-2011, the Stone Steles of the Temple of Literature in Hanoi Vietnam, which are records of Royal Examinations of the Le and Mac Dynasties (1442-1779), were inscribed to the Memory of the World Register by the UNESCO. The 82 stone steles record names of the laureates of Royal Examinations of Le and Mac Dynasties were erected between 1484 and 1780 to commemorate the Royal Examinations held between 1442 and 1779.

Vietnam is suffering from high inflation at the beginning of 2011, after Tet - the Vietnamese Traditional Lunar New Year. The World Bank forecasts Vietnam to have 9.5% inflation in 2011 while the Asian Development Bank (ADB) forecasts the inflation of 13.3% for Vietnam in 2011. The ADB also forecasts inflation in Vietnam will peak in Q3 which may reach 16% and will be lower in the months after. There were major increases in Vietnam in prices in Vietnam in Q1 alone: electricity increased by 15.3% and petrol prices creased by 30%.
