From 10-Mar-2014, foreign passport holders who travel to Phu Quoc Island in Kien Giang Province of Vietnam and whose stay on the island not exceeding 30 days are exempt from visa. If the trip to Phu Quoc Island involves a transit at another international border port of Vietnam by sea or by air, then visas are not required either.
Phu Quoc Island is the biggest island of Vietnam, located off-shore to the west of Ha Tien Town and near Cambodia. Phu Quoc is ringed with deserted sugarly white sand beaches. The Vietnamese Government has been trying to promote tourism to Phu Quoc Island as well as attracting foreign investments in tourism infrastructures on the island.
By far, there is serious lack of luxury hotels and resorts and travel-related services on Phu Quoc Island. With the newly opened international airport and the visa exemption policy, Phu Quoc is expected to receive more foreign travellers.
Notes: The visa-free travel policy has been renewed by Resolution No. 80/NQ-CP by the Vietnamese Government on 25-May-2020. The new policy starts coming into effect from 01-July-2020.
