The Vu Quang National Park is 75km northwest of Ha Tinh City, right on the border between Vietnam and Laos. The total area of the national park is 57,000 hectares with primeval forest and plethora of endemic species.
Vu Quang was known to scientists when Sao La (the Large-antlered Muntjac - Muntiacus vuquangensis), an endemic muntjac on the verge of extinction was discovered at the national park in 1992.
Since then more researches have been done at Vu Quang leading to several interesting results and discoveries of new species. Vu Quang National Park was established in 2002 to better protect the natural environment and ecosystem here.
