Best time to visit
Tam Coc is an extremely popular tourist attraction in Ninh Binh and in Vietnam. Tam Coc is beautiful always and forever! But visiting Tam Coc at different times of the year, you get a somehow different Tam Coc.
In spring time from late January through March, there are days that the mountains and rice fields at Tam Coc are covered in mist which makes it a mysterious beauty.
Visiting Tam Coc in either late May or late September apart from the year-round natural beauty, you are also extra rewarded with yellow rice fields which are extremely photogenic!
Also, it is autumn from mid August through October and Tam Coc is more idyllic with blue skies and the autumnal vibe for which Ninh Binh is famed for.
What to see, Tourist Attractions
1/ Tam Coc Flooded Fields
It is an area of flooded rice fields with a few enclosed valleys access to which is by rowing boat through underwater caves. The boat trip is for 2 hours.
2/ Thai Vi Temple
The temple is dedicated to the Tran Royal Family who came here in the 13th century in the resistance war against the Mongol Chinese Yuan invasion of Vietnam. The temple has lovely rice fields in the front and mountains in the rear.
3/ Hang Mua
Hang Mua is part of a mountain clusters which offer panoramic views of the whole area. There are steep step to climb to the top.
4/ Tam Coc Market
The market is a wonderful village market on a flat area with lovely mountains all around. The market is from 06:00 A.M through 10:30 A.M only.
5/ Bich Dong Pagoda
This is a complex of pagodas built into limestone caves. Visiting the pagoda, you cross a stone bridge which spans a lovely lotus flower pond to the base of a mountain. Then there is a trail with footsteps leading from one pagoda to another to the top of the mountain.

1/ Rowing boat trip on the Ngo Dong River
This is a lovely experience that most visitors do in Tam Coc.
2/ Cycling
If you have more than a day at Tam Coc, then explore this little backwater by bike is the best way to take in the beauty.

Late afternoon leisurely walk at Tam Coc is a very relaxing experience amid heavenly natural beauty.

Tam Coc, especially the Thung Nham Bird Valley which is 5km from the Bich Dong Pagoda, is a good place for watching birds of different species such as bulbuls, night herons, Chinese egrets...
How to get there and away
Tam Coc is 120km south of Hanoi and 7km from Route 1A, 7km south of Hoa Lu Ancient Capital. You could either visit Hoa Lu first then follow a village road southward to Tam Coc. Alternatively you to Ninh Binh City and right on the southern end of the city on Route 1A there is a road to the right leading to Tam Coc.
