The Pu Mat National Park stretches its area in Con Cuong, Tuong Duong and Anh Son Districts of Nghe An Province. The national park shares a border with Laos which facilitates ecological diversity here.
Geography
The Pu Mat National Park includes 95,000 hectares of the core zone and 86,000 of the buffer zone. The climate is tropical monsoon, and the annual rainfall at the national park is 1,800mm.
Pu Mat is the name of the highest mountain peak in the national park which is 1,841m above sea level. The area of the national park is mostly covered in primeval forest. The national park which is listed as a Global Biosphere Reserve by the UNESCO, is a great place to learn about the ecological diversity and endangered species in the Central Region of Vietnam which shares a border with Laos.
Flora and Fauna
The national park is home to 2,500 vascular species and 1,000 animal species. There are several unknown species at the national park. Pu Mat is where you can find Indochinese tigers and Red-shanked douc langurs which are listed as endangered species and on the cusp of extinction. Sao La was first discovered at this national park, not elsewhere in the world.
There are 259 bird species of which 22 species are endangered ones.
