The Pac Bo Relic is a historical relic in Truong Ha Commune, Ha Quang District, Cao Bang Province. The relic complex includes former house of Mr. Ly Quoc Sung, the Coc Bo Cave, Lung Lan Cave, Khuoi Nam Huts and other sites in the area which marked events important to the Vietnamese history back in time.
Travel Guide to Pac Bo, Cao Bang
There are confusing names even for the Vietnamese: Pac Bo as the name of the relic and Coc Po as the name of a cave. Pac Bo means Mouth of the Source (water source) and Coc Po means the Original Water Source. It is in the local Tay and Nung languages which are different from the Kinh or Vietnamese language.
The Pac Bo Relic was where Ho Chi Minh went back to Vietnam after 30 years traveling overseas to find ways for the revolution in Vietnam. It was from here that critically important movements were conducted by Ho Chi Minh and the Viet Minh which led to the August Revolution in 1945 giving birth to the independent country of Vietnam.
Given the context in the time that all activities by Viet Minh had to be in confidential that Ho Chi Minh and his comrade revolutionists had to keep moving from one shelter to another to be safe, hence the relic stretching in the area close to the Chinese border.
What to see, Tourist Attractions
1/ House of Mr. Ly Quoc Sung
This was a house on stilt where Ho Chi Minh stayed 28-Jan-1941 through 27-Feb-1941.
2/ Coc Bo Cave
The name Coc Bo means Water Source indicating the stream below the cave which flows from inside the mountain. It was here that Ho Chi Minh stayed in Feb-March 1941.
3/ Lung Lan Cave
This was where Ho Chi Minh stayed till the end of March 1941.
4/ Khuoi Nam Huts
There are Khuoi Nam Hut 1, Khuoi Nam Hut 2 and Khuoi Nam Hut 3 for safety purposes. Khuoi Nam means water stream in local Tay and Nung languages, the name is from a water source nearby. It was all forest here earlier, and it was easy to monitor movements outside Khuoi Nam while it was well hidden inside.
Also, there was the Border Marker 108 close by and the revolutionists could move right into China in case of emergency. Beside the huts, there are caves that Ho Chi Minh used them as secret mail boxes: Sli Dieng and Diem Tieu.
Khuoi Nam was where Ho Chi Minh stayed from after March 1941 until May 1945 when he moved to Tan Trao (Tuyen Quang Province).
