Among the most beautiful mountain peaks in Lai Chau is Mount Pu Lang Leng, 3,049m above sea level. Needless to say, scaling the summit of Mount Pu Ta Leng is among the most challenging adventure experiences in Vietnam. The reward is the breathtaking mountainscape of the wilderness!
Best time to visit
The best time to do mountain climbing on Mount Pu Ta Leng is during the dry season which is from late November through April. September – October could also be a very beautiful time if there is no typhoon, as this is autumn and maple leaves turn into dark red colors and light yellow colors.
The most beautiful moments are certainly found in February – March when the rhododendron forest offer full blossoms. You will be trekking amid a forest of flowers on the way to the summit.
Those who plan to trek in the winter time (late November through January) should be prepared with plenty of warm clothes and it may be below water freezing point always!
What the trek is like
1/ Day 1 from Ho Thau Village (10-12 hours)
The first day trek takes at least 10 hours with easy gradients first which is followed by 3 steep gradients each would take 3 hours to complete. The steep gradients are mossy and slippery and if you do not make it through before dark, then it would be even more difficult and dangerous.
2/ From Hut to the Summit (4-5 hours) and from Summit back to the hut (3-4 hours)
3/ From Hut to Ta Leng Village (8 -9 hours)
