Vietnam Weather in March
March is spring in North Vietnam, dry season in the Central Region of Vietnam, the Central Highlands of Vietnam and the South of Vietnam.
1/In the North of Vietnam, March is when the winter monsoon is weakening and the cold wind is normally in conflict with the easterly winds and southeasterly winds which may cause a couple of days with light rains (rain dusts).
- The Northeast of Vietnam is where the cold wind come into the country and each time it comes there may be a couple of days that there are light rains. The temperatures are normally from 16-28oC.
- The Northwest of Vietnam is more influenced by the foehn wind (westerly wind or Lao wind) which is dry and warm. A part of Hoa Binh, Son La, Dien Bien and Lai Chau Provinces are influenced by this dry and warm wind. It may be foggy and there may have light rains in Hoa Binh while the other provinces are dry and warm at mid day. Lao Cai and Yen Bai enjoy lower temperatures in March, 19-32oC.
- The lowlands (Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hai Phong, Thai Binh, Ninh Binh) should have a couple of days each time there is a new spell of cold wind. Also, at the end of each spell of cold wind, the region is affected by the warm and moist easterly and southeasterly winds which cause watery feel indoors. Households without air drier would feel very uncomfortable. The damp indoors air normally last for 2-4 days and will only be ended when the cold wind is renewed. The temperatures are from 17-29oC.
2/ The North of the Central Region of Vietnam (Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh) has somehow similar weather pattern to the North of Vietnam, but in March this region is influenced by the foehn wind (westerly, southwesterly) which makes it dry and warm, 21-31oC.
3/ The Central Coast of Vietnam (Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan) is heading into the dry season and with high temperatures. To the north (Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue), it is influenced strongly by the foehn wind and the temperatures could be high on some days. The temperatures are from 20-35oC.
4/ The Central Highlands of Vietnam (Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Dak Nong, Lam Dong) is deep in the dry season, 17-35oC; 12-26oC in Da Lat. Thanks to averaged high altitudes that the Central Highlands enjoy moderate climates and it is just pleasant in March with dry weather and pleasant temperatures.
5/ The South of Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Vung Tau, Dong Nai, the Mekong Delta) is deep in the dry season and the temperatures tend to be high. Some days it could be uncomfortable with high temperatures (above 35oC) and high humidity (above 90%). Tay Ninh, Binh Duong, Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City are the hottest of all provinces in the South of Vietnam. The temperatures are often 24-35oC.
