Vietnam Weather in April
April is spring in northern Vietnam, the best time of the year in the North; dry and hottest time of the year in the Central Coastal Region and South of Vietnam.
1/North of Vietnam in April, the winter monsoon (northeasterly monsoon) is very weak and does not have much effect in the region. In the mean time, the easterly wind and southeasterly wind start getting stronger and are often the dominant winds affecting the region.
In most of northern Vietnam, the temperatures are stable ranging from 23-33oC and there is not much rain either in April. The temperatures and humidity are stable during this time and it is not damp indoors as found in March; the air is very pleasant. April is the best time of the year in North Vietnam.
- The Northeast of Vietnam always has the lowest temperature level compared to all regions in the country: it is the first region affected by either the winter wind or the summer winds (easterly and southeasterly winds). Given the air masses are quite stable and there is not much rain during this time. The temperatures are from 20-28oC.
- The Northwest of Vietnam can be divided into 2 sub-regions:
+ Hoa Binh, Yen Bai and Lao Cai are less affected by the foehn wind which is dry and warm and these provinces tend to have more pleasant temperatures which are from 20-30oC. Sapa still has cool temperatures and less damp air, 11-19oC. Mu Cang Chai enjoys lovely weather most of the time, 14-28oC.
+ Son La, Dien Bien and Lai Chau are strongly affected by the foehn wind in April and this is the warmest time of the year in these provinces. The temperatures are from 20-35oC. Still, it is warm and sunny at mid day only and the temperatures are quite pleasant in the morning and afternoon, and cool in the evening which is thanks to high altitude. The wind is dry and there is very little rain, if any, during this month here.
- The lowlands (Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hai Phong, Thai Binh, Ninh Binh) enjoy breezy sunny days for most of April. The temperatures are from 20-33oC.
2/North of the Central Region (Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh) is influenced by the foehn wind in April, and the temperatures are building up, but still pleasant, 23-35oC. It does not rain often in the region in April.
3/The coastal areas in the Central Region of Vietnam (Central Coast of Vietnam including: Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Phu Yen, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan) is deep in the dry season but the temperatures mostly are pleasant, mostly from 23-34oC.
Quang Binh may have a few days influenced by the westerly wind which makes the temperatures in the province reaching 35-37oC.
4/The Central Highlands of Vietnam (Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Lam Dong) are in the dry season, 20-35oC. Da Lat is mostly sunny, 15-25oC. The Central Highlands may have warm temperatures at mid day but mostly it is chilly in the morning, afternoon and evening. It is normal that the Central Highlands are in serious lack of water for agriculture in April, there may be some short-lived rains but the rainfalls are normally little.
5/The South of Vietnam (Vung Tau, Saigon, Mekong Delta) normally has very dry and hot weather in April, the hottest of the year. The provinces including Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) and those to the west of the city like Dong Nai, a part of Binh Phuoc, Binh Duong, Tay Ninh normally have daily temperatures of 35-37oC at mid day with very intense sun.
The region along the coast (Vung Tau) and in the Mekong Delta have more pleasant temperatures, 25-35oC. Con Dao Islands Phu Quoc Island are often sunny, 25-34oC.
