The new spell of northerly winds started having its effects in the Central Region of Vietnam from 7December2018. The northerly winds met with the southeasterly winds on high altitudes caused unusually heavy rains from Thanh Hoa to Binh Dinh with rainfalls between 300-400mm and up to over 800-900mm in some places (Cam Le, Ba Na, Binh Phu, Thang Binh... in Quang Nam and Da Nang). Floods are rampant throughout the region; Dong Ha (Quang Tri), Da Nang and Quang Nam are to suffer the worst.
Train service between North and the South of Vietnam have been halted temporarily and road traffic has been mostly impossible in most cities in the region.
Regions which are on high alerts of flash floods are from Quang Binh to Phu Yen and Khanh Hoa.
10December2018
- 09:00 A.M Train service resumes after fixing the rail tracks damaged by the flood.
- Part of Route 1 in Binh Dinh Province (Quy Nhon City, Hoai Nhon District, Phu My District) and between Thang Binh and Tam Ky of Quang Nam Province is still under water and road traffic has been blocked.
- Torrential rains continue throughout the region.
- Many areas of Da Nang, Quang Nam and Binh Dinh are under water.
11December2018
- Heavy rains are found in South Vietnam: Ho Chi Minh City, Vung Tau, Dong Nai, Binh Duong.
- The North of Vietnam has been in real winter since 7December2018. The winter monsoon is strengthening today and rains are found in the Northeast, Northwest and the lowland. Temperatures are 8-25oC and are expected to get lower in the next few days.
12December2018
- Strengthening northerly winds causes rains throughout the North and Central Region of Vietnam. The North experiences the lowest temperatures 8-15oC.
- Central Highlands enjoy sunny weather to the north and sporadic rains to the south.
- South Vietnam mostly has sunny weather.
13December2018
- The northerly winds keep blowing and the weather turns stable without rain in the North, the temperatures are 7-18oC.
- Rains are found throughout the Central Region but the floods have mostly gone, the temperatures are 19-27oC.
- Mostly sunny in the Central Highlands, the temperatures are 21-27 to the north and 16-20 in Da Lat.
- South Vietnam enjoys mostly sunny weather, the temperatures are 24-34oC.
