The temple was built in late 17th century and some carvings were done on the rock cliffs in the 18th century. On the cliff in the front of the temple there is a word “Sacred” carved into the rock 20m high in the front of which is a bronze hanged onto the rock ceiling.
There are several rock bas reliefs found on the rock cliffs around the temple: elephants, horses, portrait of Province Chief Le Trung Nghia, mahout, hostler, poems in Chinese writings…
The temple is dedicated to Quan Cong to praise merit among person-to-person relationship. This is a popular pilgrimage point for locals at the mid a lunar month and beginning of a lunar month, beginning of a lunar year.
The Quan Thanh Temple is part of a complex of temples in the An Hoach Relics in Thanh Hoa Province. The temple has been more known recently due to that original works at the temple have been tempered with loosing some of its originality.
