The Buu Long Pagoda is located in District 9, Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City (or Saigon), Vietnam. The pagoda was built in 1942 with blend of Theravada Buddhist architecture and Vietnamese arts under the Nguyen Dynasty.
The Buu Long Pagoda is a popular spot for local Buddhists as well as young people from Ho Chi Minh City who look for mediation or a place to find back peace of mind.
History
The Buu Long Pagoda is perched on an isolated hill by the Dong Nai River with good views of the surroundings. Originally this was a private shrine owned by a monk named Vo Ha Thuat. The monk later donated the whole complex of 11 hectares to Ho Tong, chief monk of a branch of Buddhism in the region. And the shrine was later expanded into a pagoda and medication center. Nowadays the Buu Long Pagoda complex includes the worshiping quarters for Buddhism and different buildings for medication.
Architecture
The most visible structure of the pagoda is the Gotama Tower which is often found in Theravada Buddhism Pagoda in Southeast Asia with influence by the Indian culture and which is uncommon in Vietnam. The tower is 56m high and with total area of 2,000m2. The upper part of the tower is gilded with brass with shiny gold colors.
How to get there
