June is in the middle of the summer in North Vietnam with mostly sunny and hot days with short-lived occasional rains, the summer in the Central Coast of Vietnam with short-lived occasional rains and high temperatures, the rainy season in the Central Highlands and South of Vietnam meaning short-lived daily rains.
There are chances that the North of Vietnam may start having typhoons (or tropical storms) which cause incessant rains for 3-5 days which may cause flash floods and landslides in the far-northern mountains. During the possible time of a typhoon strike, cruises on Halong Bay are prohibited.
1/ North of Vietnam
In the first week of 2019, it was mostly cloudy or rainy days in all of northern Vietnam with fairly pleasant temperatures.
- Northeast of Vietnam (Lang Son, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Ha Giang, Thai Nguyen): mostly cloudy and rainy, 22-33oC. Dong Van Plateau had rains and clouds mostly, 17-25oC.
- Northwest of Vietnam:
+ Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, Lao Cai: mostly had clouds, sun and thunderstorms, 22-33oC in the first half of the week, 26-36oC in the second half. Sapa was cloudy and rainy, 13-24oC. Mu Cang Chai had sun, clouds and thunderstorms, 18-27oC.
+ Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau: clouds and thunderstorms mostly, some torrential rains with damage, 21-31oC. Moc Chau had clouds mostly and some thunderstorms, 19-27oC.
- Lowlands (Halong Bay, Hai Phong, Hanoi, Thai Binh, Ninh Binh): had sun, clouds and thunderstorms, 24-33oC in the first half of the week and 28-35oC in the second half.
The second week of June 2019 came with a heat strike to a part of the Northwest of Vietnam and the Red River Delta.
- The Northeast of Vietnam was mostly cloudy and thunderstorms, the temperatures were mostly 26-34oC. The first half of the week was with high temperatures in Ha Giang and Bac Kan, 26-36oC. The second half of the week was with torrential rains all over and the air was pleasant. The Dong Van Plateau was with clouds, thunderstorms and some torrential rains, 19-27oC.
- The Northwest of Vietnam:
+ Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, Lao Cai: mostly clouds, hazy sun, some scattered rains, hot temperatures, 28-38oC. Sapa had rains and clouds mostly, cold, 18-25oC. Mu Cang Chai had clouds and thunderstorms, 21-28oC.
+ Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau: mostly days with clouds, some torrential rains, 24-34oC. The Moc Chau Plateau had clouds mostly, some rains on the last 2 days of the second week, 23-28oC mostly.
- The lowlands had sun, clouds and scattered thunderstorms. The temperatures were 28-38oC mostly and for most of the second week; 28-34oC in Halong Bay.
The third week of June 2019 was marked by a heat strike in a part of the Red River Delta and the Northwest which later expanded its influence to all the North of Vietnam.
The Northeast of Vietnam had mostly clouds and torrential rains, 25-34oC, 27-36oC in Ha Giang and Bac Kan on the last day of the third week. The Dong Van Plateau in Ha Giang had clouds and rains, 20-27oC.
- The Northwest of Vietnam:
+ Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, Lao Cai: mostly clouds, hazy sun, some scattered rains, hot temperatures, 28-39oC. Sapa had rains and clouds mostly, 19-25oC. Mu Cang Chai had clouds and thunderstorms, 21-29oC.
+ Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau: mostly days with clouds and rains, 24-32oC. The Moc Chau Plateau had clouds and rains, some hazy sun on the last 2 days of the week, 23-28oC mostly.
- The lowlands (Halong Bay, Hai Phong, Hanoi, Thai Binh, Ninh Binh): sun, clouds, scattered rains, 28-32 in Halong and 28-37 in most other places.
The fourth week of June 2019 was marked by a bad heat strike in most of northern Vietnam.
- The Northeast of Vietnam had mixed weather: sun, clouds, rains. The temperatures were from 25-35oC. A few days, the temperatures reached 36-37oC in some locations. Dong Van Plateau had clouds and rains, 20-28oC.
- The Northwest of Vietnam:
+ Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, Lao Cai: heat strike in the fourth week and through the rest of the month, sun, high temperatures, 28-40oC. Sapa had rains and clouds mostly, 17-28oC. Mu Cang Chai had sun, clouds and thunderstorms, 20-30oC. Flash flood in Sapa (Ban Ho Village).
+ Son La, Lai Chau and Dien Bien: sun, clouds, rains, 27-37oC for the first two days, then 22-30o for the rest of the month. Flash flood in Lai Chau (Nam Nhun, Muong Te). The Moc Chau Plateau had clouds and rains, some sun, 21-30oC mostly.
-The lowlands (Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hai Phong, Thai Binh, Ninh Binh, Nam Dinh) had a heat strike with strong sun, daily temperatures reaching 29-40oC for most of the fourth week and the rest of the month.
2/ The North of the Central Region (Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh)
The first week of June was mostly with hazy sunshine, some torrential rains in Thanh Hoa, mostly scattered rains, 26-33oC in the first half of the week, 28-36 in the second half of the week.
The second week of June 2019 the region had hazy sun and high temperatures constantly, 30-37,38,39,40oC.
The third week of June 2019 was mostly with hazy sun and high temperatures, 29-39oC.
The fourth week of June 2019 was with sunny days and hot temperatures, 29-40oC.
3/The coastal areas in the Central Region of Vietnam (Central Coast of Vietnam including: Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Phu Yen, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan)
In the first week of June 2019, the Central Coast of Vietnam entered the summer with mixed weather: rains, clouds and sun. The temperatures are high.
- Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Hue: clouds, sun and rains, 28-37oC.
- Da Nang, Hoi An: sun and clouds mostly, and some rains, 26-36oC.
- Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen: hazy sun mostly and scattered rains, 26-36oC.
- Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan: sun and clouds mostly, some thunderstorms, pleasant 26-33oC.
In the second week of June, the Central Coast was mostly with hazy sun and high temperatures.
- Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Hue: clouds, sun, 29-39, 40oC.
- Da Nang, Hoi An: sun and clouds, 28-38oC.
- Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen: hazy sun mostly, 29-37, 38oC.
- Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan: sun and clouds mostly, some thunderstorms, pleasant 26-34oC in Khanh Hoa and Binh Thuan, 28-37oC in Ninh Thuan.
Third week of June was with hazy sun and high temperatures.
- Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Hue: clouds, sun, 29-39oC.
- Da Nang, Hoi An: sun and clouds, 28-36oC mostly, 29-38oC a couple of days.
- Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen: hazy sun mostly, some isolated thunderstorms, 29-36oC.
- Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan: sun and clouds mostly, some thunderstorms, pleasant 26-34oC in Khanh Hoa and Binh Thuan, 28-35,36oC in Ninh Thuan.
The fourth week of June was with hot days in the whole area.
- Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Hue: sun, hot, 29-40oC.
- Da Nang, Hoi An: sun mostly, 28-39oC.
- Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen: hazy sun mostly, 28-37oC.
- Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan: sun and clouds mostly, some thunderstorms in Binh Thuan, pleasant 26-34oC in Khanh Hoa and Binh Thuan, 27-36oC in Ninh Thuan.
4/ The Central Highlands of Vietnam (Kon Tum, Gia Lai - Pleiku, Dak Lak - Buon Ma Thuot, Lam Dong)
June is the rainy season with quite stable weather pattern: cloudy days with rains and pleasant temperatures.
In the first week was mostly with clouds and rains, lovely temperatures, 22-32oC. Da Lat got clouds and rains, 16-24oC.
The second week was with clouds and rains, pleasant temperatures, 22-32oC mostly, 21-27,29oC in Pleiku. Da Lat had clouds and rains, 17-24oC.
Third week was with mixed weather: clouds, rains and sun, 22-30oC mostly, 21-28 in Pleiku. Da Lat had clouds and rains, 17-24oC mostly.
The fourth week was with lovely weather: sun, clouds, rains, 22-31oC mostly, 21-29oC in Pleiku. Da Lat had clouds mostly, some sun, 16-25oC.
5/The South of Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Ninh, Vung Tau, Dong Nai, and the Mekong Delta)
June is the the rainy season in South Vietnam with stable weather: sun, clouds and thunderstorms, pleasant temperatures.
In the first week of June 2019, the South enjoyed stable weather.
- Vung Tau, Saigon, Mekong Delta had clouds, sun and daily patchy rains, 25-34oC.
- Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc: clouds and sun mostly, afternoon rains daily, 26-35oC.
- Con Dao Islands had clouds mostly some sunshine, and some days with rains, 28-30oC;
- Phu Quoc Island had clouds and rains, 27-31oC.
Second week was with clouds, some sunshine, rains, pleasant temperatures.
- Vung Tau, Saigon, Mekong Delta had clouds, sun and daily patchy rains, 26-34oC.
- Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc: clouds and sun mostly, afternoon rains daily, 26-33oC.
