Vietnam Weather in July 2019

July is in the middle of the summer in North Vietnam with mostly sunny and very hot days with short-lived occasional rains, the summer in the Central Coast of Vietnam with only few short-lived rains and high temperatures, the rainy season in the Central Highlands and South of Vietnam meaning short-lived daily rains.

In July, the temperatures are fine in the Northeast (Lang Son, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Ha Giang), 26-34oC and extreme Northwest of Vietnam (Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau), 23-33oC. It is often hot in the eastern side of the Northwest (Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, Lao Cai, Vinh Phuc, Phu Tho) and the Red River Delta with daily temperatures between 28-39oC. The Central Coast of Vietnam (Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen, Ninh Thuan) suffers from constant high temperatures with daily range between 30-40oC.

The Central Highlands and South of Vietnam, and the offshore islands (Con Dao Island, Phu Quoc Island) offer have daily short-lived rains in July with pleasant temperatures. The temperature ranges are 21-31oC, 25-34oC and 28-31oC respectively.

There may be occasional tropical depressions or typhoons hitting the northern coast of Vietnam with influence from Quang Ninh Province to the north of the Central Coast of Vietnam. It may rain for a few days before and after each one which may result in flash floods and landslides in the far-northern mountains and in Thanh Hoa Province.

1/ North of Vietnam
In the first week of 2019, the North of Vietnam experienced extreme weather: typhoon and heat strike. Some torrential rains were found.

- Northeast of Vietnam (Lang Son, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Ha Giang, Thai Nguyen): sun, clouds and rains, some heavy rains, 24-34oC. Dong Van Plateau was cloudy and rainy, 19-25oC.

- Northwest of Vietnam:
+ Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, Lao Cai: sun, clouds and rains, 26-34oC mostly, 28-36oC for a couple days in Hoa Binh. Sapa was cloudy and rainy, 18-24oC. Mu Cang Chai was mostly cloudy and rainy, 21-27oC.
+ Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau: cloudy and rainy mostly, 22-32oC. Moc Chau was cloudy mostly some rains, 20-28oC.

- Lowlands (Halong Bay, Hai Phong, Hanoi, Thai Binh, Ninh Binh): sun, clouds, some rains, 23-34oC mostly, 28-37oC in the Red River Delta for the last couple of days of the week.

The second week of July 2019 came with heat strike in the Red River Delta and Hoa Binh.

- The Northeast of Vietnam (Lang Son, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Ha Giang, Thai Nguyen): had sun, clouds and rains, pleasant temperatures, 26-33oC. The Dong Van Plateau had sun, clouds and rains, 19-25oC mostly.

- The Northwest of Vietnam had mostly nice days with sun, clouds and rains, pleasant temperatures. Hoa Binh had a couple of days with high temperatures, 29-37oC.
+ Hoa Binh, Yen Bai, Lao Cai: sun, clouds and scattered rains, 26-32oC mostly, 29-37oC for a couple days in Hoa Binh. Sapa was cloudy and rainy, 18-23oC. Mu Cang Chai had sun and thunderstorms, 20-25oC.
+ Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau: sun, clouds and rains, 23-31oC. Moc Chau had sun and clouds mostly, some rains, 23-28oC.

- The lowlands had sun and clouds mostly, some isolated thunderstorms. Halong Bay and Hai Phong had nice temperatures, 28-33oC. Hanoi and the Red River Delta experienced mostly a heat strike with high temperatures, 28-38oC.

The third week of July 2019 was marked by a heat strike in the Red River Delta and part of the northern mountains. There were 02 tropical depressions in the adjacent sea to the East Sea of Vietnam.

- The Northeast of Vietnam (Lang Son, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Ha Giang, Thai Nguyen): had sun, clouds, rains, 26-34oC mostly. Torrential rains across the region coming towards the end of the third week. The Dong Van Plateau had sun, clouds and scattered rains, 19-26oC. Bad floods were found in Cao Bang (Trung Khanh, Nguyen Binh).

- The Northwest of Vietnam:
+ Hoa Binh, Yen Bai and Lao Cai had sun, clouds, rains and some torrential rains at the end of the third week. The temperatures were mostly 28-33oC and 28-36oC for a couple of days in Yen Bai and Lao Cai while they were mostldy 28-36oC or 28-38oC in Hoa Binh. Sapa had clouds and rains mostly, 17–25oC. Mu Cang Chai had sun, clouds, scattered thunderstorms mostly and some torrential rains at the end of the third week, 20-29oC.
+ Son La, Dien Bien, Lai Chau had sun, clouds and rains, torrential rains at the end of the third week. The temperatures were 22-33oC mostly, 22-35oC in Lai Chau. Moc Chau had clouds and rains, 20-26oC.

- The lowlands (Halong Bay, Hai Phong, Hanoi, Thai Binh, Ninh Binh) had sun, clouds, scattered thunderstorms, 29-33oC in Halong Bay and Hai Phong, 29-37oC in the Red River Delta.

The fourth week of July 2019 marked a change of the weather pattern from summer to autumn with lower temperatures and more torrential rains. At the end of the month a typhoon/tropical depression cause heavy rains across the North.

- The Northeast (Lang Son, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Ha Giang, Thai Nguyen): had mixed weather: some sun, mostly clouds and thunderstorms, 24-32oC. Dong Van Plateau had sun, clouds, rains, 19-26oC.

- The Northwest:
+ Hoa Binh, Yen Bai and Lao Cai: sun, clouds, rains, 25-34oC mostly, 25-35oC on some days and 25-31oC at the end of the month. Torrential rains at the end of the month caused by a typhoon.  Sapa had some sun, mostly clouds and rains, 16-24oC. Mu Cang Chai had sun and thunderstorms, some torrential rains, 20-27oC.
+ Son La, Lai Chau and Dien Bien: sun, clouds, rains, 22-30oC mostly, 22-33oC in Lai Chau. Some torrential rains posed serious threats of flash floods. Moc Chau Plateau had some sun, mostly clouds and thunderstorms, 19-26oC.

- The lowlands (Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hai Phong, Thai Binh, Ninh Binh, Nam Dinh) had some sun, mostly clouds and thunderstorms. The temperatures were mostly 27-32oC in Halong Bay and 28-33oc in Hai Phong. It was warm and high temperatures in the south of the Red River Delta from 28-36oC in the whole fourth week and the temperatures in the lowlands turned sharply lower to 26-32oC and 26-30oC for the last couple of days of the month as the typhoon was coming in causing torrential rains all over the North.

2/ The North of the Central Region (Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh)
The first week of July was mostly cloudy and rainy, sunny for the last couple of days, 27-34oC mostly, hot for the last a couple of days of the week, 29-37oC.

The second week of July 2019 the region had hazy sun and clouds, 29-38oC.

The third week of July 2019, it was hazy sun mostly, 29-38oC.

The fourth week of July 2019 was with hazy sun and heat strike with constantly high temperatures 28-37oC for all the fourth week. The heat strike was ended by the influence of a coming typhoon and the temperatures were lower 26-32oC for the last couple of days of the month. It was dry mostly but there were heavy rains for the last 3-4 days of the month posing serious threats of flash floods and landslides in the mountains.

3/The coastal areas in the Central Region of Vietnam (Central Coast of Vietnam including: Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Phu Yen, Binh Dinh, Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan)
In the first week of July 2019, the Central Coast of Vietnam got the first couple days with pleasant temperatures, then it was sunny and hot mostly.

- Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Hue: clouds, sun and rains, 26-34oC in the first half of the week; sun, clouds, 27-37 in the second half.
- Da Nang, Hoi An: Sunny mostly, 28-37oC.
- Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen: sun, clouds, isolated rains, 27-37oC.
- Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan: sun and clouds, isolated rains in Binh Thuan, 27-33oC mostly, 27-36oC for the last couple of days of the week in Ninh Thuan.

In the second week of July, the Central Coast was mostly sunny and hot.

- Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Hue: sun and clouds mostly, 29-38oC.
- Da Nang, Hoi An: hazy sun mostly, 29-38oC.
- Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen: sun, clouds, 27-37oC.
- Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan: sun and clouds, isolated rains, 26-33oC mostly, 27-36oC in Ninh Thuan.

Third week of July was with hazy sun mostly.

- Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Hue: sun mostly, 29-39oC.
- Da Nang, Hoi An: hazy sun mostly, 28-37oC.
- Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen: sun, clouds, 28-37oC.
- Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan: sun and clouds, isolated rains, 26-33oC mostly, 26-35oC in Ninh Thuan.

The fourth week of July was with hot and dry weather mostly. The heat strike was ended for the last couple of days of the month.

- Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Hue: sun mostly, 27-37oC; thunderstorms, 27-34oC for the last 2 days of the month.
- Da Nang, Hoi An: hazy sun mostly, 27-37oC during the first half of the fourth week, 27-36oC in the second half; thunderstorms, 26-34oC for the last two days of the month.
- Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen: sun, clouds, thunderstorms, 26-37oC. It was dry mostly in the first half of the fourth week, then there were torrential rains which helped the region to cope with the serious ongoing drought.
- Khanh Hoa, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan: sun and clouds, isolated rains, 26-34oC mostly, 27-35oC in Ninh Thuan. For the last couple of days of the month, the temperatures were 26-32oC mostly, 26-34oC in Ninh Thuan.

4/ The Central Highlands of Vietnam (Kon Tum, Gia Lai - Pleiku, Dak Lak - Buon Ma Thuot, Lam Dong)
July is the rainy season in the Central Highlands with short-lived daily rains and pleasant temperatures.

In the first week it was mostly with clouds and rains, lovely temperatures, 22-29oC mostly, 21-27oC in Pleiku. Da Lat got rains every day, pleasant temperatures, 16-24oC.

The second week was with sun, clouds and daily rains, pleasant temperatures, 22-31oC mostly, 21-28oC in Pleiku. Da Lat had stable weather with sun, clouds, daily rains, cool temperatures, 17-24oC.

Third week was with clouds, rains and sun, pleasant temperatures, 22-31oC. Da Lat had clouds and rains, 17-24oC.

The fourth week was with some sun, mostly clouds and rains, 21-31oC mostly and 21-27oC in Pleiku. For the last 3 days of the month, the temperatures were lower, 21-27oC mostly, 20-22oC in Pleiku.

5/The South of Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Ninh, Vung Tau, Dong Nai, and the Mekong Delta)
July is amid the rainy season in southern Vietnam with daily short-lived rains and mostly pleasant temperatures.

In the first week of July 2019, the weather was stable and typical of the rainy season.

- Vung Tau, Saigon, Mekong Delta had clouds, sun and daily rains, 25-32oC.
- Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc: clouds and sun mostly, rains daily, 25-33oC.
- Con Dao Islands had clouds and sun, rains, strong southwesterly wind on some days, rough sea, 28-30oC;
- Phu Quoc Island is sunny and cloudy, rains, strong southwesterly wind on some days, rough sea, 26-31oC.

Second week was with sun, clouds, daily short-lived rains, pleasant temperatures.

- Vung Tau, Ho Chi Minh City, Mekong Delta had clouds, sun and daily rains, 26-33oC.
- Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc: clouds and sun mostly, rains daily, 25-34oC.
- Con Dao Islands had clouds and sun, rains, 28-29oC;
- Phu Quoc Island had sun, clouds, rains, 28-31oC.

Third week was with sun, clouds, daily short-lived rains, pleasant temperatures.

- Vung Tau, Saigon, Mekong Delta had clouds, sun and daily rains, 25-32oC.
- Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc: clouds and sun, rains daily, 25-33oC.
- Con Dao Islands had clouds and sun, rains, strong southwesterly wind, rough sea, 26-29oC;
- Phu Quoc Island had sun, clouds, rains, strong southwesterly wind, rough sea, 28-30oC.

The fourth week was with sun, clouds, daily short-lived rains, pleasant temperatures. There were some bad thunderstorms with heavy rains and strong gusts of winds which downed trees in Ho Chi Minh City and An Giang (Chau Doc, Long Xuyen).

- Vung Tau, Saigon, Mekong Delta was with sun, clouds and rains, 26-32oC mostly, 26-33oC in Ho Chi Minh City.
- Dong Nai, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc: sun, clouds and rains, 26-32oC mostly, 26-33oC in Tay Ninh, Bien Hoa and Thu Dau Mot (Binh Duong).
- Con Dao Islands had clouds, rains, some days with rough sea, 27-29oC;
- Phu Quoc Island had sun, clouds, rains, strong southwesterly wind, rough sea, 28-31oC.
