Yen Bai Province is located in the middle of Northwest of Vietnam surrounded by Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Son La, Phu Tho and Tuyen Quang. Yen Bai is known for the rice terraces at Mu Cang Chai and the wild mountains of Ta Chi Nhu (Phu Song Sung) and Ta Xua.

1/ Mu Cang Chai Terraces
Be it flooded terraces in late May - early June or golden rice terraces in late August – early September, you will certainly be charmed by the mesmerizing beauties at Mu Cang Chai which lies above 1,000m above sea level.

2/ The breath taking Khau Pha Pass
The peak of Khau Pha is over 1,000 above sea level which provides 360-degree views of the surrounding, especially the Tu Le Valley. There are some moments of the day which are best for photography.

3/ Tu Le Valley, Thai Villages and the Com (dry young sticky rice)
Well known for Thai ladies’ beauty and fragrant sticky rice, Tu Le should not be missed at all. It is conveniently located on the way to Mu Cang Chai from Hanoi.

4/ Muong Lo Valley – the third biggest valley in the North West of Vietnam and Black Thai Villages
Idyllic and peaceful Thai villages in the valley offer relaxing experiences. There are homestays which host traditional Thai dances in the evening.

5/ Phu Song Sung Mountain (Ta Chi Nhu Mountain)
The mountain has two names above originating from local Thai and Hmong Languages. This is one of the highest peaks in the Northwest of Vietnam. A trekking trip to the mountain peak takes 2-days (1 night) from Hanoi.
6/ Ta Xua Mountain
Ta Xua is a mountain range stretching from Tram Tau (Yen Bai Province) to Bac Yen (Son La Province). This is one of the highest mountains in Vietnam. Ta Xua is great for trekking to adore mossy forests. A trekking trip to Ta Xua takes 2 days or 3 days from Hanoi.
7/ Thac Ba Lake
The natural lake is known for several islands and peaceful Dao Villages by the lakeside. It was once on the route from Hanoi to Sapa. The route changes now and all of a sudden, Thac Ba Lake is off the tourist track. Traveling to Thac Ba Lake you can have a boat trip on the lake, cycling trip amid local ethnic minorities and stay overnight at one of the homestays just by the lakeside.
8/ Hang Te Cho Waterfall
The waterfall is well hidden amid wild and menacing mountains and bad roads. It is only when you face it, it is a huge “WOW”!
